Nokia Lumia 800 receives Windows Phone 7.8 software update

If you own a Nokia Lumia 800, you have reason to rejoice. It looks like the first official Windows Phone form Nokia will be the first in line to receive the Windows Phone 7.8 software update.

Windows Phone 7.8 is a somewhat poor attempt from Microsoft to make up for not offering Windows Phone 8 to their older device. The update features the WP8 start screen experience along with 10 new theme and accent colors, Bing Picture of the Day on the lock screen, security updates and new Nokia apps.

However it doesn’t offer some basic necessities like the ability to connect and sync with the Windows Phone syncing tool or OTA updates.

Despite our feelings on Microsoft’s decisions on their mobile platform, users will be happy to finally get some sort of an update on their devices.

You can get the update by connecting your Lumia 800 to the computer and running the Zune desktop software. The upgrade is broken down into the four following components.
  • Nokia update for Windows Phone 7.10.8773,
  • Update for Windows Phone 7.10.8779.8,
  • Update for Windows Phone 8779 to 8783
  • Update for Windows Phone 7.10.8858.136
Once the updates are completed you should be presented with a new boot screen and arrive in you Windows Phone 8 like start screen  with resizable tiles.
