[Guide] How to make Google Maps for iPhone the default app for map links

Google has finally released the Google Maps for iOS, much to the relief of several iOS 6.0 users who have been unhappy with the Apple Maps offering on their devices. The new Maps app brings back the feel of the discontinued service but users who have a jailbroken device can take  the experience one step further with the help of a tweak which will allow you to open map links automatically with the new app.

The tweak is available on Cydia through the BigBoss repository. To install it, Open Cydia and search for ‘MapsOpener’. Once you find the file download and install it. Once the installation in complete respring and your done. Your map links will now on Google Maps instead of Apple Maps.

If you want to revert to using Apple Maps to open your map links, you simply need to remove the app from Cydia.

You can even take advantage of this tweak if you are running iOS 5.0 on your device as an update of sorts to the existing Google Maps solution. The latest version of Google Maps offers a refreshed UI and turn-by-turn navigation making it a worthy update in any case.

Google Maps from iOS quickly rose to the number one spot for free apps on the Apple App Store, which is something that Apple would not be too happy about.
