Google and Dish network have been negotiating a partnership recently to start a wireless carrier to compete with Verizon, AT&T and other mobile carriers in the U.S.. It turns out the deal is now being finalized and the network will be launched by late 2013. However the network will be data only, using VoIP for phone calls and data for SMS.This report has still not been confirmed as previous reports have indicated that Google and Dish Networks were still in negotiations regarding the network. However the new report suggests that the negotiations and near finalization and that the service will go live by mid-to-late 2013.
We cant confirm if this report will become a reality, we like the idea of having a data only network, With SMS usage steadily declining in any case, we can imaging Google Voice evolving to manage the incoming and outgoing calls on Google Wireless. If Google does a great job with pricing their service, the carriers in the U.S. will have something to worry about soon.
