ZTE announces $160 quad-core Android smartphone

ZTE has just announced a new Android smartphone which they have priced at 999 yuan ($160) called the ZTE U950. You would think a cheap price would result in a mediocre phone, but the device manages to pack in a generous 4.3 inch display, a 5 megapixel camera capable of 1080p HD video capture, a 2000 mAH battery with a 1.3GHz NVidia Tegra 3 processor  and 1GB of RAM for that price, which is really impressive. What's more, they managed to pack this all into a 9 millimeter thin body.

It has been less than a day since Google announced the Nexus 4, which itself was an affordable device considering its specifications. But we feel that ZTE has set a whole new low in smartphone pricing.

The sad news is that the device looks to remain exclusive to the Chinese market. It can be ordered on November 11, by the first 100,000 customers who reserve the unit. More units would probably be available at a later date.
