Google building a virus scanner for Android ?

Google’s Android is a great mobile operating system with one limitation, it’s not immune to malware. Since users have the luxury of installing apps from unknown sources, it is likely they may unknowingly install malware onto their devices. Google is working on fixing this by introducing a built in application to detect any viruses in Android

Google already has a service called Bouncer which scans apps when they are first submitted to the Google Play Store. This new solution would likely work side by side with Google’s Bouncer to keep devices safe.

This solution is referred to as App Check and will likely scan new apps prior to installing them to check if they have any malware within them. It will probably also scan all existing apps to ensure your device is not already infected, but there are already products in the Android marketplace which take care of that.

This was discovered through some icons which have appeared on the Android system – A Shield which indicates a protected system and a exclamation mark which indicates detected malware.

While this service is still not functional, we expect it will arrive in future versions of Android, and could be a likely feature in the upcoming Android 4.2.
