Apple sends out invites to media for Special Event on October 23

Apple has started sending out invites to the media for a special event which is scheduled for October 23, 2012 in the California Theater in San Jose California. This event would likely mark the announcement of the rumored Apple iPad Mini, a new 13 inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display, a refreshed lineup of iMacs and a brand new Mac mini.

The iPad Mini has been hot in the rumor mills over the last few months, with a rumored 7.85 inch display with a resolution similar to the Apple iPad 2, storage options ranging from 8GB – 64GB and Wi-Fi/3G/4G connectivity options.

Apple’s former CEO Steve Jobs has been extremely adamant that tablets with smaller displays than their current iPads would be dead on arrival. So we are curious how Apple would approach the subject of a smaller iPad if these rumors do pan out to be true. Apple is known for using the terms ‘reinventing’ and ‘built in the right way’ during their presentations and they would probably have to eat their own words if we do see an iPad Mini revealed on October 23.

The iPad Mini is expected to have a starting price ranging between $250 – $350 which is somewhat reasonable, and we expect Apple may stick to their black and white color schemes unless they decide to go with the multi-colored approach of their new iPod Touch 5.

We feel Apple’s best approach would be to offer the iPad Mini as a larger iPod Touch. This would allow them to protect the statement made by Jobs, and still compete in the 7 inch category against similar tablets. Even though the new iPod Touch has a larger 4 inch display, large display devices like the Samsung Galaxy Note II continue to grow in popularity and we are sure Apple have their eyes on this. Now that Microsoft has revealed their pricing for the Microsoft Surface RT, it would be in Apple’s best interest to one up their competitor with a new offering to keep them in the top.

In any case we will have the event covered right here on DJ’s Mobiles, so be sure to bookmark us and be back Next Tuesday for our live coverage.
