Windows 8 Consumer Preview release date revealed

The release date for Windows 8 Consumer Preview is now official as Microsoft has stated that they will host an event for the public beta release of the operating system on February 29 in Barcelona.

The news comes from Microsoft's Facebook page and is in line with the reported end of February release date for the latest version of Windows. Windows 8 beta promised lots of improvements over the Developer Preview which was released back in September which includes an improved keyboard and better mouse gesture support.

A report also reveals that the following metro apps are being finalised by Microsoft for release with the Windows 8 Consumer Preview.

  • Camera
  • Messaging
  • Mail
  • Calendar
  • SkyDrive
  • People
  • Photos
  • Video
  • Music
This list will probably grow as the release date draws closer. We can also expect to see the first line-up of devices from  Windows Marketplace. Microsoft has been working with developers to bring the first wave of Windows metro apps to the marketplace and they are set to debut with Windows 8.

The future of the Windows Live app suite is in question as Microsoft has integrated the Mail, Calendar, Messaging and People apps as part of the core Windows 8 experience. Microsoft is reported to be integrating SMS into the messaging app which currently

The Zune integration of Windows 8 is expected to be rebranded as XBox Live according to the report. Making Xbox Live the main source of entertainment on your Windows 8 device.

What to expect on the release of Windows 8 Consumer Preview is still anyone's guess.. Microsoft will continue to fine tune the final experience and have Windows 8 ready for your hands soon enough...
