BlackBerry Messenger for iPhone and Android cancelled ?

RIM's BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) is one of the key elements to mobile platforms success. With the recent decline in BlackBerry popularity in favour of Android and iOS it was interesting that RIM decided to bring their BBM application to their major competitors.

However a recent report suggests that RIM will drop plans to bring BBM to iOS and Android, and instead aim for direct competition instead.\

RIM recently announced that they would bring their corporate security experience to Android and iOS by offering better control and monitoring over employees. Work on this is supposed to continue according to the same report.

We are curious to see the direction the company decides to take under it's new leadership. Does RIM have the existing infrastructure to take on the iOS and Android dominance or will they continue to be pushed into the shadows as the competitors continue to grow and expand in their dominance.
