[iOS app] iBooks updated (2.0) introduces Textbooks


The iBooks application for iOS was updated today to version 2 and was demonstrated at a special Apple Education Event which took place in New York. The new iBooks 2  features textbooks, which allows you to feature education in a whole new way, through the iPad.

Textbooks on the iPad will offer a durable, searchable, dynamic, interactive and extremely portable learning experience for the modern student.

The iBookstore offers textbooks on Algebra, Biology, Chemistry, Geometry, and Physics from McGraw-Hill and Pearson. These textbooks are currently available to customers in the United States. Textbooks from Houghton Mifflin Harcourt are coming soon.


While iBooks 2 is available on the iPhone and the iPod Touch, it is best experienced on the iPad. With the large screen real estate you can interact with photos and menus on your textbooks. You will experience 3D models of various structures.


Switching between landscape and portrait helps you decided how best you would like to read or interact with your content.

Getting to your table of contents is as easy as pinching out. Features like interactive learning quizzes can be added to make the your study time more fun and engaging.

The 'My Notes' section allows you to take and store notes which will be stored in a study card format for quick access. You can search for certain definitions easily with web connectivity.

The updated shopping section will allow you to browse and purchase new textbooks which will be stored on your iBooks shelf. Once you purchase a book it is yours to keep and can be re-downloaded at any time.
