Acer unveiled their own cloud service during the CES 2012. Dubbed AcerCloud, this service allows you to upload and store your files to an Acer web server and access it from your Acer devices like smartphones, tablets or PCs. Acer promises unlimited storage for your files and its FREE
Acer seems to be offering this service as a direct competitor to iCloud from Apple. Apple users can sync their data between all the devices in their ecosystem and it looks like Acer is planning to one up it's competition by adding the 'Unlimited for Free' tag to the mix.
Your files will be stored on the servers for 30 days with the primary source which is your computer maintaining the main copy. Data can be synced between Windows and Android devices. The services in AcerCloud include:
PicStream - Which allows you to take photos on your smartphone and stream them through the cloud to your home computer. You can then access all your content from your other Acer devices for up to 30 days.
AcerCloud Docs - You can Work on your documents on your computer at home, and quickly access them from your netbook during your commute or from you laptop or smartphone in your office.
Clear.fi media - Allows you to stream your multimedia from your home computer while you are on the road. You can access your music from your smartphone and save it for offline viewing at a later time.
While is is great to see manufacturers take initiatives to keep their users from switching to Apple products, It is hard for single manufacturers to compete with Apple's huge ecosystem. A common collaboration between various manufacturers would offer a much better fine tuned solution which can be enjoyed by the user no matter what brand device you carry.
