First Windows 8 ARM tablets to come from Samsung, Toshiba and Lenovo

Microsoft is hard at work, finalizing the ARM version of Windows 8 for public consumption and Samsung, Toshiba and Lenovo are reported to be the first manufacturers to bring the touch friendly version of Windows to the market. The devices are said to be powered by Texas Instruments, Qualcomm and NVidia.

Each chipset manufacturer is said to be working with two manufacturers with one acting at a major partner while the other will play the role of a minor partner. Qualcomm is reported to be working with Samsung, while Texas Instruments has chosen Toshiba and Nvidia will work with Lenovo.

One part of the report that we did find confusing was that Windows 8 for ARM wouldn't ship until mid 2013. With Windows 8 expected by the end of 2012 and reports of the ARM version only consisting of the Metro UI, it would be clear that Microsoft would have completed development of the Metro UI by the time Windows 8 is complete.

In any case, 2013 is a long way off, so it will be interesting to see what kind of market Microsoft will be entering into, giving the mature iOS and Android OS two more years to grow.

Would you be interested in a Windows 8 tablet when it comes out ? or are you happily settled with your iPad or Android tablet? Voice your thoughts in the comments section below.
