Is Amazon looking to purchase webOS

Amazon joined in on the tablet market with the release of the Amazon Kindle Fire - The companies first tablet running Android OS. But whats unique about the Amazon tablet is that it is Amazon's services which gives it an edge over it's android counterparts. It's $200 price tag helps as well.

So we know that it's not the OS that makes Amazon's tablet offering great. So what it you couple great services and a price onto a different OS ? Chances are it will still sell well.

So it didn't come as much of a surprise when we came across the news that Amazon is in the front line of purchasing WebOS from HP. Sources have reported that HP is looking for a suitable buyer for their WebOS and Amazon is closest to getting the deal.

Following the Kindle Fire, Amazon has already shared their plans of working on their second 10.1 inch tablet which will be manufactured by Foxconn. As it seams like Amazon is in the tablet market for the long run it will be interesting to see WebOS powering future tablet offering from Amazon. However I am curious to know how Amazon will convince their Android app developers to develop apps for WebOS unless they offer it alongside Android.
