Windows Phone (Mango) 7.1 - Released to Manufacturing (RTM)


Windows Phone Mango - the first major update to the Windows Phone 7 mobile operating system has been released to manufacturing (RTM) which means it is code complete and ready for the smartphone manufacturers to start testing it on their devices on various carriers.

The update was first announced back in May 27th and promised not only to bring Microsoft's mobile platform in par with it's competitors, but to also offer some new and innovative features to the mobile market. The Mango update features over 500 new features which address several issues on the first release while adding new functionality as well.

New features include : multitasking, Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn integration, threads, Windows Live Messenger and Facebook Chat integration, Unified Inbox, Update to Bing, LiveSync with SkyDrive, update to photos, update to Internet Explorer for mobile, better battery performance and many more.

The Mango update will be made available to all existing Windows Phone devices as well and users can expect this   update to appear sometime during the fall.

The release of this update also will kickstart the Microsoft-Nokia deal, which will bring a slew of new Windows Phone devices from Nokia. With some new smartphones and a mobile OS which now seams prepared for battle. Lets see how Microsoft deals in the mobile wars in the coming years.
