Facebook introduces video calling

Chatting on Facebook has evolved quite vigorously over the last few months, and in a recent announcement Facebook has introduced some updates to their messaging service which now includes group chat, video calling and other improvements.

The video calling feature comes with Facebook's partnership with Skype. Users can initiate a video call to their friends directly from the messenger.Among the new features Facebook also automatically organizes your friends based on who you contact the most. Thanks to this update you don't have to scroll through your list of friends looking
for the person you want to contact. The video calling video may take a couple of weeks to make it's way to all your accounts, so if you want to get it right now you can do so
by clicking here. You will be prompted to install a plugin to get the video call to work. If you don't have a webcam don't worry, you can still make voice calls using this plugin. One negative is that you have to be on Facebook to use this feature.

The other problem is that this feature will not be available on mobile platforms supported by Facebook. Hope we will see this change in the future. Especially with Google's Social network strategy getting so much attention from the media and public.

Skype recently updated their own client with Facebook support, allowing you to chat with your Facebook friends from Skype. Unfortunately the new partnership does not allow you to use the Facebook calling feature to get in touch with your Skype friends or contact anyone outside of Facebook.

You can check out the official video which shows the updates to Facebook's messaging and the new video calling feature below:
