BlackBerry Jam Americas Event

RIM's BlackBerry Jam Americas conference is set to start today in San Jose California. The purpose of this developer conference is to build up some developer interest in their upcoming BlackBerry 10 (BB10) platform, which is expected to arrive in the consumer market by the first quarter of 2013.

RIM BlackBerry Enterprise Server 10 will work with current models

BlackBerry OS 10 is coming, and along with it RIM will also release the BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) 10. RIM announced that the current lineup of BlackBerry handsets including the BlackBerry PlayBook will work with the new version of Enterprise Server.

RIM once considered Android instead of BlackBerry OS

In a recent interview, RIM CEO Thorsten Heins they had discussed the possibility of choosing Google's Android mobile operating system to power their next generation of devices.

The company later decided against this and chose to focus their resources into developing BlackBerry OS 10.

BlackBerry Curve 9310 - Video Review

The BlackBerry Curve 9310 is an entry level smartphone from RIM which features  2.4 inch display, QWERTY keyboard, GPS, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, microSD storage and a 3.2 megapixel extended depth of field camera.

At an attractive $49 on contract, the Curve 9310 hopes to win back customers who are are opting for Android alternates. However we are sure that it will find its way to hardcore BlackBerry users who are looking to find a low priced BlackBerry handset.

BlackBerry App World reaches 3 billion downloads

Today RIM announced that the BlackBerry App World had reached a milestone of 3 billion app downloads. RIM's online app store has been open for a little over three years now, and back in April the company announced that the store had reached the 2 billion downloads milestone. So its quite impressive that they have reached the 3 billion mark in less than 3 months.

BlackBerry PlayBook 16GB to be discontinued by RIM

The BlackBerry PlayBook is RIM's first attempt in the tablet market, and it hasn't been a successful venture against Apple's dominance with the iPad. However RIM has aggressively marketed their QNX based tablet giving users more than one reason to choose the PlayBook.

So while one would expect that the cheapest of the PlayBooks - the 16GB model would remain the most successful, RIM has decided to discontinue it in favor or the higher capacity 32GB and 64GB variants.

BlackBerry OS 10 notification system demonstrated

It seams like the folks at RIM have been working very hard to bring the QNX powered BlackBerry OS 10. This was revealed in the new notification system was revealed by RIM's software chief Vivek Bharwaj during BlackBerry World which is currently taking place.

The improved feature allows you to glance into your notifications while and get back to what you were doing. This is not a new feature for iOS and Android users  who have a detailed view of their notifications when they are using another app, thanks to their respective notification trays, but it is good to see the folks at RIM have taken a different approach to their notifications as you will see in the following video demo.

BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha - Hands On Video

The BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha is a developer device which RIM handed out to developers who attended the BlackBerry Jam this year. The Developer device is a shrunken version of the BlackBerry Playbook. It has a 4.2 inch touchscreen with a 1024x768 pixel resolution.Since it shares the same resolution as the PlayBook the Dev Alpha has a pixel density of over 300 DPI. Developers will have the opportunity to test their apps on the device as we prepare for the public launch of BlackBerry OS 10.

RIM launches the BlackBerry 10 platform

The BlackBerry World 2012 is underway and RIM has made some announcements regarding the BlackBerry 10 software platform.The initial version of the developer toolkit has been released for native and HTML5 development. This will allow BlackBerry platform developers to start building apps for both phones and tablets on the BlackBerry OS 10 which is set to be available sometime later this year.

Developers who are attending the BlackBerry 10 Jam this week will receive a free BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha device which they can use to test their applications.

BBM Music has been updated to version 1.2.0.16. The new version features a new intelligent shuffle mode along with several enhancements. You can download the latest version as long as you are a member of the BlackBerry Beta Zone.

Along with the new shuffle mode, you also have the ability to favorite a song, improved notification, faster start-up time and easier access to your account from the profile screen. The app has also added the ability to view a song before having to accept a friends invitation to download it.
