[Guide] How to install CyanogenMod 7.1 (Android 2.3.7) on supported Android devices


The CyanogenMod custom ROM has been updated and the new version 7.1.0 comes with support for almost 30 new devices. This brings the number of compatible devices to a total of 68.

The following guide will show you how to install CyanogenMod on your favorite device through some simple steps

New features on this update include support for Bluetooth mouse, touch-to-focus in the Camera app, enhanced swipe-to-clear in the notification drawer. You can read more new features here.

Requirements
  1. Root your device. You may find a suitable root on our blog or on XDA Developers.
  2. Download and Install ClockworkMod Recovery
  3. Make sure you have 200MB of free space on your internal memory or microSD card.
  4. Ensure your battery is suitably charged. If you loose power while you are installing the mod your device will get bricked.
The step-by-step guide follows:
  1. Download CyanogenMod 7.1 for your device. You can make sure you are getting the right file by checking your device codename here.
  2. Connect your device to your computer using the USB cable.
  3. Copy the .zip file to the root folder of your device.
  4. Switch your device off once the file transfer is complete
  5. Boot into ClockworkMod (CWM) Recovery. The sequence of buttons you need to press differ from device to device so please check the specific sequence for your device from Google.
  6. Use CWM to backup your device by navigating with the Volume Up/ Down, Home and Back buttons to backup and storage > backup
  7. Once backup is complete, 
    • scroll down to mounts and storage and format /system. 
    • Also format /data
    • and format /cache
  8. Return to the main menu and wipe data / factory reset
  9. From the main menu,
    install .zip from sdcard > choose zip from sdcard > [cyanogenmod file download in step 1]
  10. one flashing is complete, reboot your device from the reboot system option on the CWM menu.
You should now have CyanogenMod 7.1 (Android 2.3.7) installed on your Android device.
