Google Chromebook announced


Google today announced the Chromebook during the second day of the Google I/O 2011. We first got a glimpse of the device back in December when Google gave out a few CR-48 netbooks to some lucky testers.

The Chromebooks will run ChromeOS which is a linux and cloud based operating system.

Chromebooks will be available from Acer and Samsung as early as June 15, 2011 and can be purchased from Amazon.

  • Friends Login - Chromebooks can easily be shared with family, friends or colleagues. All you need is a Google account, and you will have access your Chrome settings, apps and extensions. You also can optionally sign in using the guest mode, which ensures your privacy, and will not store your information.
  • Forever Fresh - Google promises that your Chromebook will get better with time, unlike computers which slow down over years of use. Chrome apps will automatically be updated and Google will continuously update Chrome OS automatically, without annoying prompts.

Chrome OS has been built on the principle of "defense in depth" and provides multiple layers of protection, including sandboxing, data encryption and verified boot.
