The Sony Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact was announced at the company's IFA event, as the worlds thinnest, lightest and most waterproof 8 inch tablet. This is the first small size tablet from Sony and it completes the company's mobile portfolio.
Just like the Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet, the newer tablet measures only 6.4 mm. It also introduces a very high for such a slim mobile device dust- and waterproof rating - IP58/68 certification - meaning that you can dive with it in up to 1.5 meters of water. You get an 8 inch Triluminous display with a 1920 by 1200 pixel resolution. The display also features a high brightness mode along with Sony's X-Reality engine that makes colors and contrast pop while watching media.
There is 16GB of internal storage which can be expanded through microSD, an 8MP Exmor RS rear camera, a 2MP front camera for video calls, a 4500 mAh battery which promises up to 15 hours of HD video playback and a 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor with 3GB of RAM.
In addition, you can use the tablet as a remote screen to connect to and control your games on PS4 with the so-called PS4 Remote Play for the Xperia Z3 series. Thus, when the TV is occupied, you can hook up the slate to the PS4 via Wi-Fi, and game with the DUALSHOCK4 controller, while the tablet is resting in front of you on the GCM10 Game Control Mount accessory. Sony has also provided stereo speakers, and a new DSEE HX technology that "upscales" regular tunes to higher-resolution audio quality.
The Sony Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact is expected to cost €379 or £329 in Europe without subsidies, but we can only expect to get our hands on this device this fall.
