Samsung Galaxy Alpha officially announced

Samsung Galaxy Alpha

The  has been officially announced after months of rumors and leaks. The Galaxy Alpha is a premium smartphone with a metal frame, and happens to be the thinnest in the Galaxy smartphone lineup. The new device was unveiled at an event in Russia, which will also be the first market where consumers will be able to pre-order the Galaxy Alpha.

The Samsung Galaxy Alpha has a metal build and a sleek profile which is only 6.7mm thick. It features a 4.7 inch display, which happens to be the same display size rumored to be on the upcoming Apple iPhone 6. Apart from the screen size, the Galaxy Alpha is visually similar to the Samsung Galaxy S5. But it also borrows design elements from devices like the Apple iPhone 4S (minus the glass in the front and back) and the Nokia Lumia 930. You do get the fingerprint reader from Samsung's flagship, but the Galaxy Alpha does not offer water resistance.

Other specs include 32GB of internal storage (without microSD expansion), a 12MP rear camera capable of 4K Ultra HD video capture at 30fps, a 2.1MP front camera, Cat.6 4G LTE connectivity with 300Mbps download speeds, a 1860mAh battery, and an octa-core Exynos 5430 processor with 2GB of RAM. On the software side you get the latest version of Android 4.4 KitKat with Samsung's TouchWiz user interface.

The Samsung Galaxy Alpha price is set at $689 (24990 rubles) off-contract, right between that of the flagship Galaxy S5 (costing $827, or 29990 rubles) and the Samsung Galaxy S5 mini (priced at $555, or 19990 rubles). The handset is set to be released on September 12th, but it's already up for pre-order and Samsung is bundling some bonus accessories for the first to place a pre-order.
