New Windows Phone 8.1 screenshots leaked, confirming on-screen buttons and separate volume controls

Windows Phone 8.1The Windows Phone 8.1 update is getting closer to a release, and Microsoft seems to be hard at work enhancing the interface based on what has leaked. We have gotten a glimpse of the notification center which gave us an idea of how Microsoft plans to manage the notifications. Now we have gotten two new screenshots showing more of what's in store for us.

The first image confirms that Windows Phone 8.1 will allow devices to feature on screen controls. Moving the navigation to the device will allow phones to be more compact. It will also allow keep the controls from getting in your way when you are enjoying a game on your mobile. However we are not fans of the black bar, which Android and iOS have gotten rid of in their latest iterations. We hope the black bar will fade off on Windows Phones like it does on Windows 8, allowing the user to access it only when needed.

The screenshots also demonstrate separate volume controls for the ringer and system notifications on Windows Phone 8.1. The volume controls appear above the music player controls and a shortcut to settings. It is currently unknown if these controlled will be accessed as a pull down notification, similar to Android and iOS or if Microsoft has a different plan.

Windows Phone 8.1 also may bring support for higher resolution displays, and introduce Microsoft's digital voice assistant Cortana. So it looks like we will have a huge list of features to look forward to when Windows Phone 8.1 finally arrives.
