For thirteen long years, soft drink giant Coca-Cola, better known as Coke, has ruled the roost as Interbrand's top Global Brand. But on Monday Apple took over as the number one brand in the world. The iPhone manufacturer was at number 8 in 2011 and rose to number 2 behind Coke last year.
Now Coca-Cola has dropped to 3rd place as Android provider Google has rises to 2nd place up from 4th last year.
Microsoft remained number 5, while Samsung is at 8 and Intel holds the 9th position. Not all mobile companies hold high positions as BlackBerry, which was 56th in 2011 and 93rd in 2012, is now off the list. And Finnish handset manufacturer Nokia had the largest fall of names in the top 100. The company went from 14th in 2011 to 19th last year and now holds the 57th place in the latest list.
Jez Frampton, Interbrand's global chief executive said that Apple's placement in the top spot was "A matter of time. What is it they say, ‘Long live the king’? This year, the king is Apple."
The value of the Apple brand is estimated at $98.3 billion, up 28% from last year. Coke's brand is worth $79.2 billion, up 2% from last year. Do you think Apple will hold onto the top spot for the next 13 years? Do will the new year crown a new king? Share your thoughts below.
