Microsoft is now ready to give the public their first look at Windows 8.1 - the first update to Windows 8. It seems that Microsoft has been working hard on this update as it brings a substantial collection of features to the platform, which you may not expect from a small incremental update.
Personalization seems to be one ofthe key areas Microsoft has focussed on with Windows 8.1. For example, users can turn their PC or tablet into an animated slideshow using your image galleries or SkyDrive. Additionally you can choose additional colors and background for the Start Screen including motion based background which move as you navigate through your apps.
Users can now also capture photos directly from their lock-screen using the camera (if available) without having to log in.
Good news for the fans of the Windows Start button, which is making an unceremonious return with the Windows 8.1 update. The Start button is quite symbolic for Windows, and while you don't really require a visual button on Windows 8, those who missed it should be comforted by its return.
Microsoft will also be updated the Search charm, which will offer results in a list combined from various sources including your own content and online content. Microsoft hopes that these amendments will make it easier for users to get their work done.
Microsoft will also be making several improvements to the native apps on Windows 8.1 like the Photos app while will offer editing features and the ability to be access from other apps like SkyDrive and Mail. The Music app will receive a facelift, making it easier to interact with your music collection.
Microsoft has also updated their multi-tasking capabilities allowing users to resize their running apps next to each other in a way that's best suited to the user's needs.
The Windows Store will also be updated, providing detailed information about the most popular apps and a lot more information about your apps that was previously provided. Its good to see that the Windows Store is falling in line with the other application stores on other platforms.
Windows 8.1 will also bring improvements to the SkyDrive, allowing users to access their cloud files even when they don't have an internet connection.
Microsoft will even add quick access to commonly used settings, without the user having to open Control Panel every time they want to change things like display settings, power options and resolution
The Internet Explorer will also be updated on Windows 8.1 to version 11 continuing the "built for touch" trend with better touch performance and faster page load times. For those who aren't using touch enabled devices, or prefer to use a physical mouse and keyboard, you can change what each corner does when the OS is in use with the idea being to drastically enhance navigation around the OS for those using hardware accessories.
Its good to see that Microsoft has been listening to their customers with the Windows 8.1 update. Do you agree? Share your thoughts below. You can also check the following source link for more details of the update.
