Microsoft pauses Windows Phone 7.8 software update

Windows Phone 8 LogoMicrosoft is reported to have paused the Windows Phone 7.8 update for devices like the Nokia Lumia 900, Nokia Lumia 800, Nokia Lumia 710, Nokia Lumia 610 and the Nokia Lumia 510 in an attempt to fix a glitch in the software.  Now Nokia has also confirms that the update has been halted, leaving the first generation users stuck on Windows Phone 7.5 yet again. In any case reports are suggesting that this is a “minor issue in the Windows Phone 7.8 software” and the roll-out should continue soon.

Microsoft frustrated their users when they announced that the new Windows Phone 8 update wont be coming to Windows Phone 7.5 users. They attempted to make up for it with the release of Windows Phone 7.8 which mimicked the WP8 platform with the refreshed homescreen and resizable live tiles. WP7.8 is not in the least bit comparable to WP8 and the update (at least in our eyes) felt more insulting to the users who stood by the company and invested in their first generation of Windows Phone devices.

The Windows Phone 7.8 update first leaked in December to most Lumia handsets and we put together a guide on how to install Windows Phone 7.8 on your Nokia Lumia device, which allowed users to (unofficially) flash the leaked update files to their devices. Users who arent desperate to try out the new software when Microsoft started the official roll out this year.

Do you agree with us that Microsoft should unify the Windows Phone platforms and release one version for all devices? Or are you happy with  the Windows Phone 7.8 update?
