If you are looking for a rugged yet fairly portable android smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy XCover 2 is a great option. It may not have the specs of the waterproof Sony Xperia Z, but ads a shockproof body and wont hurt your wallet. This device will even work for the careless users among you, who toss their phone around or accidently go into the pool with the phone still in your pocket.
For an outdoor phone, the sunlight visibility should have been much better, and the lack of manual screen brightness adjustment may also make some users unhappy, but other that that you wont be disappointed with the XCover 2, especially when you find out you can capture photos under water or switch on your flashlight with just a touch of a button.

The XCover 2 features a 4.0 inch touch display, 4GB of internal storage which can be expanded through microSD, a 5 megapixel camera capable of 720p video capture and underwater photography, a secondary camera for video calls and is powered by a 1GHz dual-core processor with 1GB of RAM. The specs are enough for powering the Android Jelly Bean device with ease, and the handset takes pretty good pictures and video, too, so it is an alternative to any mid-range smartphone.
