The Samsung ATIV Smart PC is a tablet-laptop hybrid which runs Windows 8. The device features a 11.6 inch touch display with a 1366 x 768 pixel resolution, 128GB of internal storage, a 4080 mAh battery which offers around 14 hours of usage and is powered by a dual-core Intel Atom processor.
Because the ATIV Smart PC runs Windows 8, you have access to all the legacy Windows programs and are not restricted to the selection in the Windows Store. Samsung has even managed to match the battery life of the iPad and Android slates in the market with a device which is comfortable to hold and can easily take the form of an Ultrabook with its keyboard dock. The added benefit of the S Pen for digital input is also welcome.
Keep in mind that while the Atom processor is more than capable of handling light usage scenarios you may want to rely on something like the Microsoft Surface Pro for heavier use, but comes at a cost. You can also take a look at a notebook like the Asus VivoBook which costs $500, comes with a touchscreen and same weight but with better specs and storage compared to the ATIV Smart PC.
However the biggest competitor to the ATIV Smart PC comes in the form of the Acer Iconia W510, which has a slightly smaller display but a keyboard docks with an additional battery to improve the endurance. You can also consider the Apple iPad 4 which has a huge collection of apps or the Google Nexus 10 which has a much higher display.
