Nokia Belle FP2 will be the last update to Symbian OS ?

Nokia has released a statement on the Nokia Developer site, which suggests that Nokia Belle FP2 maybe the last update for the Symbian operating system. Nokia says that devices receiving the update will be in maintenance mode after the update which means Nokia will only perform bug fixes and improvements on the existing features of Symbian.

This was revealed in a response to a developer’s suggestion regarding one of Nokia’s apps:

Accenture is set to take over from Nokia to continue Symbian support until the operating system is finally phased out. If Nokia Belle FP2 which was previously code-named Symbian Donna is the final version of the operating system, its likely that will be the last we will see of the platform.

The statement also speaks about future development, so we may hope that Nokia will continue to secretly work on their Symbian platform for an epic comeback, even though it seams extremely unlikely.
