The attack was carried out by a hacker known as @AnonymousOwn3r, who claimed
"I'd like to test how the cyber security is safe and for more reasons that I can not talk now."
The Anonymous groups is made up of a collection of hackers who co-ordinate online and infiltrate websites as a form or protest against governments or corporations they view as oppressive or corrupt. Since its creation in 2003, Anonymous has claimed responsibility for several high-profile hackings, including the recent take down of CIA.gov in February 2012 and several UK Government sites in April 2012.
However @AnonymousOwner tweeted that he acted alone and without the cooperation of other Anonymous members.
“the attack is not coming from Anonymous coletive [sic] , the attack it's coming only from me”
Following a flood of complaints and hours of restoration, GoDaddy released the following update on their Twitter Page at 4 PM EST.
"Update: Still working on it, but we're making progress. Some service has already been restored. Stick with us".
Our domain along with our blogs were also blacked out during the outage and we have just had our service restored. We hope that the other GoDaddy customers will have their service restored soon.
