Apple iPhone 5 pre-orders exceed 2 million in first 24 hours

The Apple iPhone 5 has been available for pre-order since September 12, and it looks like the company’s newest smartphone is on track to break more records. Apple has revealed that the iPhone 5 has been pre-ordered more that 2 million times during the first 24 hours.

This number is more than double the figure of the Apple iPhone 4S. Apple has stated that a majority of the pre-orders will be shipped on September 21, however some of the orders will be delayed until October due to insufficient supplies due to the unexpectedly high demand.

Those who missed placing the pre-orders can purchase the iPhone 5 at Apple stores starting September 21 at 8 AM when it is made publicly available.

The Apple iPhone 5 features a 4 inch touch display, making it the first increase in display size since the first iPhone. Other improvements include a sleeker design, 4G LTE connectivity, camera improvements, a more powerful Apple A6 processor and iOS 6.0.
