RIM BBM service had the unique ability of allowing BlackBerry users to stay in touch with each other. Apple followed suite with their own solution iMessage - which allowed iOS device users to communicate with each other. The iMessage feature is even on the verge of making it’s way to the Mac OS platform. While the Android platform users had to rely on WhatsApp for their messaging needs, Samsung decided to enter the cross platform messaging market with their own solution - ChatON.
ChatON first made it’s appearance on the Android platform back in October and won over one million users. This was followed by the iOS version which was released in January and a BlackBerry version which has now joined the ranks.
Samsung also offers a web version for both touch enabled and standard devices with the hope of reaching out to a wide array of devices.
But will BlackBerry and iOS users adopt this cross platform messaging application? If you have friends who don’t use iOS or BlackBerry this may be the right solution to stay in touch with minimal costs.
