Now it turns out that the Astound will not be receiving Nokia Belle according to a Twitter post by NokiaUS.
The Nokia Astound in a variant of the Nokia C7 and features the same specifications and software other than for the T-Mobile branding and some custom applications.
A report from IntoMobile suggests that T-Mobile is responsible for not deploying the update citing the huge 250MB update size as a reason. However since the update is not being made available Over-the-air and is only available through the Nokia desktop Suite this cannot be a plausible reason.
The only probably reason for T-Mobile to deny the Nokia Belle update would be to push customers toward newer handsets, like the Nokia Lumia 710, or another Android offering. Nokia Belle breathes new life into it's hosts by upgrading the Symbian experience to a more modern feature rich feel. The newly refined user interface and the updated notification system is similar to what we are used to seeing on the modern iOS and Android handsets.
I have really admired Nokia's commitment to their Symbian^3 lineup of devices. I have often found myself frustrated in the past when Nokia would release a device and then a new one only to forget their previously release handsets. Leaving out a selection of users however small they may be does not demonstrate good customer relations, so I hope Nokia and T-Mobile change their stand on bringing Nokia Belle to the Nokia Astound
