Android 5.0 Jelly Bean will allow dual-booting Chrome OS

It was back in September last year that we first heard about Android Jelly Bean, which will eventually succeed Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS). Even though ICS has been officially released it has still to make it's presence felt. Now a recent report suggests that Google is planning to ready it's successor by the second quarter of this year.

Android 5.0 Jelly Bean is reported to bring further support for larger screen devices including tablets and netbooks. It is reported to allow users to dual-boot between Android and Chrome OS. Chrome OS has not seen great success as a desktop platform, and it seams like Google may consider using Android's popularity to market Chrome OS. Google is reported to be planning a tablet in the Nexus series which could introduce the latest version of Android which a range of new tablet centric features. Devices like the Asus Transformer Prime or the Asus PadFone are great examples of switching between mobile devices and desktop based use.

Offering a dual-boot nature in Android 5.0 may also be a direct answer to Microsoft's Windows 8, which pushes Microsoft's latest OS to a wider range of devices which will include tablets and netbooks. With Windows 8 due for release by the end of this year it will be Android biggest competitor in the tablet market, attempting to push forward thanks to the immense popularity of it's Office productivity suite.

There is no confirmation of this report by Google, so we will have to wait until Google I/O which is scheduled for June 27 to see if Google does announce Android 5.0 Jelly Bean.
