Could iOS see the rise of gaming console from Apple

Apple is not new to the gaming console market, but then again they were never the popular choice for a gaming platform as they are today. iOS has ushered in a new era in gaming and I cannot help wonder if Apple is eyeing the opertunity of re intering the gaming console market once again.

Back in 1995 Apple took their first shot at building a gaming console. The device 'The Pipin (marketed Pipp!n) is no way can be compared with the modern day Playstation 3 or Xbox 360, but was an adventurous venture nevertheless.

The Pippin which ran a toned down version of Apple's OS 7 didn't quite get it to where it wanted to be and was quietly discontinued by Apple. You may be able to find one somewhere on ebay.

With the rise of iOS popularity, the mobile OS from Apple has become a very popular gaming device with many developers quickly jumping on the bandwagon to bring their own games to iOS. Apple's mobile OS continues to grow as it's found its way to the Apple TV and the iPad.

As the quality of gaming continues to rise on the iOS platform, I can't help wonder if Apple will try and re enter the gaming console industry. An Apple TV like device which can plug into your HD TV, which runs iOS and can give users the option of a controller instead of having to use the sometimes irritating virtual keypads. Sounds like something you would like to see ?

With Tim Cook taking over as CEO from Apple we don't quite know what to expect from Apple in the coming years. But we know the Company which is dominating it's competition would only continue to do so. With a PlayStation 4 (2012) and Xbox 720 (2013-2015) already in the works don't be surprised if you see Apple join in with something of their own.

And if Apple does release a gaming console, we at DJ's Mobiles calls dibs at being the first to predict it :)
