Google Nexus One receives Android 2.3.6 software update


The Google Nexus One has received a minor software update (Android 2.3.6) which was released for the Google Nexus S earlier this month. The Nexus One which was released back in 2010 is an ageing device being followed by the Google Nexus S and soon to be announced Google Nexus Prime. But anyone who is still using this device will be happy to know that Google is working constantly on keeping their devices updated.

You can wait to receive this update automatically or follow the instructions below to install the update manually.

The Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread (GRK39F) update improves security and performance on the device and should be made available OTA quite soon. But if you would prefer to download the update right now simple follow the steps lined out below.
  • Download Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread (GRK39F)
  • Rename the file update.zip
  • Connect the Nexus One to your PC and transfer update.zip to the root on your device SD card. (do not place it inside any folder)
  • Turn off the device
  • Press the Volume Down button and turn on the phone while holding it.
  • Scroll down to Recovery and press the power/lock button.
  • You will see a exclamation mark.
  • Press Power and Volume Down button at this point.
  • In the menu which appears select sdcard:update.zip.
  • Wait for a message install from sdcard complete.
  • Reboot your device
Your Nexus One should now be updated to Android 2.3.6. You can check by going to :
Settings > About Phone
