Google Nexus S receives Android 2.3.3 software update


The Google Nexus S is now receiving the Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread software update. The update is rolling out OTA over-the-air and it may take a couple of days before it reaches all the handsets.

The Android 2.3.3 is a small feature release which adds several improvements and APIs to the Android 2.3 platform.

The Nexus S is the successor to the Google Nexus One. It features a 4-inch curved touch display, 16GB of internal storage, a 5 megapixel camera, a secondary camera for video calls and is powered by a 1GHz processor with 512MB of RAM.

Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread changelog:

For developers, the Android 2.3.3 platform is available as a downloadable component for the Android SDK. The downloadable platform includes an Android library and system image, as well as a set of emulator skins and more. The downloadable platform includes no external libraries.

  • Fix for random reboots on Nexus S.
  • Android 2.3.3 adds platform and API support for Bluetooth non-secure socket connections.
  • New Graphics, Media framework and Speech recognition APIs.
  • The Android 2.3.3 platform also delivers an updated version of the framework API.
  • Contacts sync in Facebook for Android disabled for Nexus S and above.
