Apple introduces Mac OS X 10.7 and new MacBook Air


At an event held today by Apple several new technologies including a new version of Mac OS, iLife '11 and Facetime for Mac were revealed along with a refresh to the MacBook Air lineup.

iLife '11 Suite will be updated by Apple. Three of the apps were demonstrated at the event.

iPhoto '11 has introduced full screen view, making use of the full display revenue of your device. Close integration with facebook allows users to comment on photos directly from iPhoto. Emails can now be sent directly from within iPhoto in various custom made formats. Apple also introduced a collection of slideshows allowing users to make beautiful slideshows of their photos. Users can also make photo books and cards from within iLife. Letterpress Cards can also be made right from within iPhoto '11.

iMovie '11 adds features like Movie Trailers, which allows you to make movie trailer like movies for your home videos. iMovie now allows in depth audio editing, and various One-Step effects within your movies. The people finder feature within iMovie allows finding faces within footage so you can choose your cast. Along with various new themes and effects you can publish your movies on your Mac or iDevices.



GarageBand '11 was the other app that was demoed as part of the Suite. The update brings features like Flex Time, Groove matching, Various Guitar Amps and Effects, Skill testing application and Lessons in Piano playing and Guitar playing better than ever before.

Facetime for the Mac was introduced. Facetime which is available for the iPhone and iPod touch will now be made available for Mac users as well. Factime can be downloaded as an App today.

OS X 10.7 Lion was previewed at the event. The new version of OS X bring the best from the iOS to OS X.  An App Store will be introduced for Mac. While OS X 10.7 is set to be available for the summer of 2011 the Apple CEO promised App Store for mac will be made available within 90 days for Mac Users. OS X 10.7 will feature multi gestures and launchpad to organize your apps similar to the iOS experience. Mission Control feature which expands on Expose makes multi tasking better than even before allowing users to move between their apps with a simple flick.

The final part of the event was the unveiling of the new MacBook Air... The new model comes in two sizes 13.3 as well as 11.6. Both devices feature flash storage instead of a hard drive or optical drives.


The new 13.3" model, with 1.86GHz Core2 Duo processor will cost $1,299 with 128GB or storage and $1,599 for 256GB. The 11.6" model which has a 1.4GHz processor will cost $999 for the 64GB model and $1,999 for 128GB.
