Google Nexus One - Discontinued

The Google Nexus One has unfortunately had it's plug pulled on it due to poor sales. The last shipment has been sent out from Google HQ, and following this there wont be any more devices available for the U.S. consumer market.

However the phone will still be sold through Vodofone in Europe and some Asian carriers. Developers can still get their hands on a device. It looks like the future of Android will lay in the hands of other carriers and device developers in the United States. It doesn't look like the concept of an unlocked device will stay popular in the U.S. market. The closure of Google's Nexus One web store was announced two months ago ensuring an end to it's sales.
This is something that I personally found quite disappointing. With the Google branding behind it, the Nexus One was a device popular among the geeks. The Nexus One was treated to the latest version of Android 2.2, much faster than it's siblings. I am not sure if Google has plans of releasing another device but I know i wouldn't be the only one in line to want to get it.
I am curious on your comments and thoughts on the Nexus One being discontinued in the U.S. Do you think Google hasn't done enough with their advertising? Would a better campaign have helped push the device sales? Should there be a Nexus 2. Be sure to share your comments below.
