LG Optimus 7 may not receive Windows Phone 7.8

The LG Optimus 7 was one of the first Windows Phone handsets in the market and is currently running Windows Phone 7.5. If you own one of these handsets, you will be wondering if the device will be receiving the upcoming Windows Phone 7.8 update, which promises to bring the new Windows Phone 8 start screen to older devices.

Unfortunately it looks like the LG Optimus G will not be receiving the Windows Phone 7.8 update.

Windows Phone 7.8 RTM released, update coming soon ?

Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7.8 is an upcoming update for Windows Phone 7.5 devices which will give users a taste of Windows Phone 8 and reports are suggesting that the update has been released to manufacturing (RTM). This of course suggest that we won't have to wait long before the update is available for download.

Previous reports suggested that the Windows Phone 7.8 update wouldn't arrive until early 2013, but based on the new information we may receive the update before the end of this month.

Nokia Lumia 900 running Windows Phone 7.8 spotted

We know that older Windows Phones will be receiving Windows Phone 7.8 instead of the newer Windows Phone 8 operating system. However Microsoft has not suggested when this update will happen. But it looks like the update may be ready for public consumption as it has been recently seen running on a Nokia Lumia 900.

The demonstration was made at the new ‘Lumia Experience Store’ located in Raffles City in Shanghai China. The report suggests that the Lumia 900 with Windows Phone 7.8 installed was displayed alongside the Nokia Lumia 510 and the Microsoft Surface RT tablet.

[Comparison] Windows Phone 8 vs. Windows Phone 7.8


We already know that current generation Windows Phones will not be receiving the new Windows Phone 8 mobile OS and instead will have to settle for Windows Phone 7.8 instead. But we know very little about both operating systems in terms of what features we can expect.

However thanks to a recent leaked comparison between Windows Phone 8 (WP8) and Windows Phone 7.8 (WP7.8) we now have a somewhat clearer idea of what to expect.

Windows Phone 7.8 - Video Demo

Microsoft recently announced (WP8) during their Windows Phone Summit 2012, which brings several new features and improvements which bring the company’s mobile OS in par with its competition.

Along with WP8, the company also introduced which brings some of the key features the new OS to current Windows Phone devices.

Today Microsoft revealed some features of Windows Phone 8 at their Windows Phone Summit in San Francisco. While Windows Phone 8 turned out to be an amazing addition to the Windows Family, there was some very disappointing news.
