Windows Phone 7.8

Microsoft has just confirmed that it will stop supporting its Windows Phone 7.8 platform on September 9, 2014. Honestly though, it doesn't feel like the platform has been getting much attention for a long time now, and the drop of support will mark the final nail on the Windows Phone 7.8 coffin.

Nokia Lumia 710 for T-Mobile wont receive the Windows Phone 7.8 update

Nokia has started rolling out its Windows Phone 7.8 software update to its users, but there is some bad news for the Nokia 710 on T-Mobile. The carrier has decided not to offer the new software update to its users.

Windows Phone 7.8 is an update to Windows Phone 7.x users which brings the resizable live tiles to the Windows Phone platform along with a few improvements and enhancements. While the update is very small compared to Windows Phone 8 it is still disappointing that the carrier has chosen not to offer the update to their users.

Microsoft releases Windows Phone 7.8 SDK

Windows Phone 8 LogoMicrosoft has released the Windows Phone 7.8 SDK as an optional update for developers. It brings two new emulator images to the existing version. This will give developers a chance to fully test how their Windows Phone 7.5 apps will behave with the re-sizable tiles which will be a part of the Windows Phone 7.8 update.

Hopefully the release of the SDK would also indicate that the launch of the Windows Phone 7.8 software update for existing Windows Phone 7.5 devices will be coming very soon. Until now Microsoft has been very vague with the release date and said it will arrive in early 2013.

Nokia Lumia 800 receives Windows Phone 7.8 software update

If you own a Nokia Lumia 800, you have reason to rejoice. It looks like the first official Windows Phone form Nokia will be the first in line to receive the Windows Phone 7.8 software update.

Windows Phone 7.8 is a somewhat poor attempt from Microsoft to make up for not offering Windows Phone 8 to their older device. The update features the WP8 start screen experience along with 10 new theme and accent colors, Bing Picture of the Day on the lock screen, security updates and new Nokia apps.

However it doesn’t offer some basic necessities like the ability to connect and sync with the Windows Phone syncing tool or OTA updates.

If you are impatient to wait for the public release and want to try installing the update from Navifirm, you can follow our step-by-step guide on how to install Windows Phone 7.8 for your Nokia Lumia device.
