Nokia Lumia 925 for T-Mobile receives Lumia Black update with GDR3

The Nokia Lumia 925 on T-Mobile's network in the U.S. is now receiving the Nokia Lumia Black software update with Windows Phone Update 3 (GDR3). The update is being pushed to Lumia 925 users OTA and you should receive a notification when it is available for your device.

If you have not received a notification, you can manually check for the update by going to Settings > Phone Updates, to see if it has arrived for your device.

The Nokia Lumia 620 has started receiving the  software update with Windows Phone Update 3 (GDR3). The update started rolling out to Lumia 620 owners in Finland and Netherlands yesterday and it looks like it is on a global rollout to devices starting today.

HTC 8XT for Sprint receives Windows Phone 8 GDR3 update

The HTC 8XT for Sprint is now receiving the Windows Phone Update 3 (GDR3) which brings several improvements and enhancements to the device. This is the first update for the HTC 8XT since the handset was launched back on July 19th of this year.

The main purpose of the GDR3 update for Windows Phone is the inclusion of support for 1080p displays, larger display sizes and quad-core processors. But the current generation Windows Phones also get some new features

Lumia Black update for Nokia Windows Phone 8 devices to arrive in early 2014

Just like the 'Amber' update which accompanied GDR2, Nokia has been working on a software release called 'Lumia Black' which is set to accompany Nokia Lumia Windows Phone devices with Windows Phone 8 Updated 3 (GDR3). Microsoft unveils Windows Phone Update 3 with support for 1080p displays and quad-core chips

Microsoft has finally revealed the Windows Phone Update 3 which brings long awaited support for 1080p displays, quad-core processors and several other improvements and enhancements. Microsoft hopes to meet three main goals with the Windows Phone Update 3: “Enable a new generation of incredible Windows Phone 8 devices, enhance the platform with new capabilities for current users and partners, and improve overall quality.”

The Windows Phone Update 3 is in fact the General Distribution Release (GDR) 3 update we have been heard several rumors about. Luckily we now have a clear idea what to expect in terms of features on the next generation of Windows Phones.

Windows Phone 8 GDR3 (alleged) feature list leaked

Some new information on the new features which will be available with Windows Phone GDR3 has been leaked out, and it gives us some insight on what we can expect from the next big version of Windows.

The GDR3 update will be introduced alongside a new lineup of Windows Phone 8 devices sometime in September and with the GDR2 update just around the corner, we see Microsoft is strongly focused on Windows Phone. With Nokia presumably having plans to launch a new large screen device later this year, the pressure is on Microsoft to ready their software to match the needs of their partners.
