The Windows Phone 8.1 Developer Preview is a pre-release update, and even though it brings several enhancements to the platform it still contains several bugs that need to be ironed out before its final release. Microsoft opened the Developer Preview to all Windows Phone 8 users, stating that there was no way back from the update, however a new video shows how you can downgrade back to Windows Phone 8 from Windows Phone 8.1

Officially Microsoft is clear that there is no direct way to downgrade back to Windows Phone 8 if you upgrade to Windows Phone 8.1 Developer Preview. It is also clear that once you upgrade that your device is no longer under warranty.

Unfortunately Microsoft decided to open up the Windows Phone 8.1 Developer Preview to the general public, allowing anyone with a Windows Phone 8 device to download the update for free by simply signing up for a developer account. However, since it is a pre-release update and the OS is not optimized with carrier and manufacturer settings in mind, it is not perfect. Some people have noted a decrease in battery performance, devices getting warm, while others have noticed Bluetooth connectivity issues, and of course, some general bugs. Even in our own tests we have noticed the above mentioned issues along with some random reboots with the Developer Preview.

While developers and tech enthusiasts may be willing to put up with these issues as the continue tinkering with the Windows Phone 8.1 update, general users are not so willing to forgive such imperfections. The final update to Windows Phone 8.1 is expected to arrive in the coming months of summer.

Luckily a YouTube user, has uploaded a video showing how he was able to downgrade to Windows Phone 8 from the Windows Phone 8.1 on his Nokia Lumia 720. Here are the steps on how he has gotten through the process.

• Back up your data, because you will lose it
• Download and install Nokia Software Updater
• Connect your Windows Phone with the screen unlocked and Nokia Software Updater running
• The app will say there is an update available
• Follow the prompts to install the “new” firmware
