Today Google officially announced Android 4.3 Jelly Bean during a special Android/Chrome event. Early builds have leaked for Google Edition (GE) devices like the HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S4, but today we finally get an official unveiling along with a list of all the features we can expect from the newest version of Android.Multi user support was introduced on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean for tablets and has been further improved with the Android 4.3 release. The restricted profiles feature lets you put your tablet into a mode with limited access to apps and content. You can even limit in-app content and moderate which levels of certain games can be played. User switching from the lockscreen will also be faster after installing the Android 4.3 update.
Google Hangouts and Google Keep are now available on devices out of the box while Google Drive, Google Chrome and Google Maps have been updated to new versions.
The notification system on Android has also been updated. You can now view notification history. Also, third party apps and accessories have access to notifications, which should help smart accessories and apps that sync notifications across your devices.
Autocomplete has been added to the dial pad. You can turn on this feature by going to phone app settings and enable 'Dial pad autocomplete'. Once enabled your contact names will be displayed as soon as you start typing the numbers.
OpenGL ES 3.0 is now supported which should improve the overall graphics experience.
Bluetooth 4.0 with Low Energy mode (low power usage and longer range for low-bandwidth accessories like those fitness tracking gadgets) is now supported in Android 4.3. Previously manufacturers would have to release drivers separately for their devices. AVRCP 1.3 is also supported, which will allow your device to stream metadata about the currently playing song to the wireless speakers.
A new hardware-based encryption for DRM has been added so content providers will be more willing to stream high-quality content. The newest Netflix for Android update will be among the first to make use of this to stream 1080p video.
Virtual surround sound will be available on the Google Nexus 7 (2013) and the Google Nexus 10.
The recently discovered 'master key exploit fix has also been incorporated into the Android 4.3 update along with several other security fixes and performance improvements.
As you know the new Google Nexus 7 will come with Android 4.3 out of the box. The Android 4.3 software update will be available to the Google Nexus 4, Google Nexus 7 and Google Nexus 10 starting today. The Samsung Galaxy S4 GE and the HTC One GE will receive the update soon.
