A new report claims that Samsung may be using the Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 chipset on their upcoming Samsung Galaxy S IV instead of the Samsung Exynos 5 Octa processor. The reasoning behind this is the thermal envelope and the power consumption of the company’s home brewn processor.There have been previous rumors suggesting that Samsung may choose to use both Qualcomm’s and their own Exynos processors on different versions of their upcoming flagship, but it looks like the company may settle on using the Snapdragon chip instead. The Snapdragon processors are hard to beat when it comes to system on a chip performance and due to its radio which covers most of the world’s networks.
The HTC One is a great example with its 1.7GHz quad-core Snapdragon 600 chip on board and Samsung will want their offering to closely compete and if not beat its competitors in order to make a name for itself in 2013. The Samsung GT-I9505/SHV-E300S/SHV-300L/SCH-I545 which has leaked with a 1.9GHz Qualcomm processor with four Krait cores could very well turn out to be the Galaxy S IV in its final form.
The processors are more than capable of running any task or app without slowing down and if this rumor boards true, Qualcomm will also benefit greatly from Samsung using its chips on their flagship, which promises to sell in the millions.
