[iOS app] QuickOffice available for FREE on the iPad

Back in June we reported that Google acquired the Quickoffice productivity suite for an undisclosed value. We haven't heard much about the result of the acquisition until today, as Google has made Quickoffice for iPad free for Apps for Business customers. In addition Google also announced that free versions of Quickoffice for Android and the iPhone were also in the works and would be released soon.

Quickoffice for iOS allows you to open up any file you have stored in your Google Drive directly from your iPad and make the edits you need when you don’t have access to a desktop.

You can download the app directly on your device through the Apple App Store or by using the link which follows:

Download Quickoffice - Exclusively for Google Apps for Business - Quickoffice, Inc.
Price Free
Requirement iOS 5.0 or greater

Google plans to reach a wide mobile audience by offering this app for free, and users can convert Office files to Google documents on their device. While users can choose to simply edit their documents without converting them, Google plans to continue improving the editing and converting functionality of their office suite in 2013.

Another platform which will loose Quickoffice support is Symbian, which Nokia is facing out in favor of Windows Phone. However it will be interesting to see what happens to operating systems like BlackBerry which also rely on the suite.

With Microsoft also planning to introduce its own Office Suite to multiple mobile platforms, we are curious to see how the year ahead shapes up for the mobile market.
