The following guide will show you how to flash your Nokia mobile device using Phoenix and Navifirm using the Nokia N8 as an example. Flashing refers to re-installing your device firmware (operating system) files. Flashing can be used to fix a corrupt of deleted file system, a dead or bricked phone or other software related issue which has caused your phone to stop working. Flashing can also be used to install the latest (or any available) firmware or to flash a custom (cooked) firmware on your device.If you are looking to do one of the above, the following step-by-step guide will show you how to flash a normal (not dead) Nokia device using Phoenix and Navifirm.
[NOTE] Please do not proceed with this guide unless you have advanced knowledge of Navifirm and have had previous experience with updating your device using unofficial methods.
[NOTE] Issues that can occur on your from following this guide will not be covered by your Nokia Warranty. Please know that you may void your device warranty if you proceed.
[NOTE] Make sure you have backed up your data using the Nokia Suite / PC Suite before you proceed.

- Find and note down your following
- Code – This can be found on the sticker under the battery (eg: 0XXXXXX)
- Type – This can also be found on the sticker under the battery (eg: RM-XXX)
- current software/firmware version by pressing *#0000# (not applicable if phone is dead)
[NOTE] on devices with sealed batteries like the Nokia N8, you can find these codes on the product box or SIM card tray
- Download and install the latest version of Phoenix Service Software. (We cannot share links to Phoenix for legal reasons, you will have to use Google to download the latest version)
- - Download the latest version of Navifirm and extract its contents to a directory of your choice (no installation needed here)
- - Open Navifirm and find and select your device from the Products pane (eg: Nokia N8 – RM-596)
- - The corresponding software releases for the selected devices will appear in the adjoining ‘Releases’ pane. Select either the latest release or the version you want to download.
- - The third pane will load various device Variants. You can Identify your variant by comparing it with the Code you previously checked. Once you have identified your variant, select it, make sure that all the checkboxes are selected in the upper fourth column and click Download.
- - Open the Navifirm folder “\ NaviFirm + 1.7 \ Fw \<product code>” and copy the files inside that folder.
- - Now go to “C:/Program Files/Nokia/Phoenix/Products” and create a new folder to represent your device (eg: Nokia N8 – RM-596)
- - Paste the files you downloaded in Step 6 into that folder (eg: C:/Program Files/Nokia/Phoenix/Products/RM-596)
- - Launch Phoenix and connect your device to your computer using the USB cable through PC Suite / Nokia Suite mode
- - Go to File > Scan Product in Phoenix and wait for it to detect your device.
- - Once your device is detected select Flashing > Firmware Update.
- - The files you placed under Phoenix in Step 7 should now appear on the firmware update window. If it doesn’t show up
- Make sure that your device firmware is located in C:/Program Files/Nokia/Phoenix/Products/RM-xxx and if not repeat Steps 6 and 7
- Go to Tools > Options > Product Location in Phoenix and make sure C:/Program Files/Nokia/Phoenix/Products/RM-xxx appears in all three boxes.

- If Step 12 is successful click Refurbish and ignore all the warning boxes that appear during the process.
- - Phoenix will inform you once the process has completed successfully
[NOTE] Please make sure you DO NOT disconnect your device during this process.
- - Once the process is complete, disconnect your device and reboot it.
