[GUIDE] How to root your Samsung Galaxy S II on Android 4.0.3 ICS with CF-Root


Samsung recently announced that they have started rolling out the Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Samsung Galaxy S II.

We have put together a step-by-step guide for anyone who wants to install the official Android ICS right now without having to wait for the update to reach your region or wireless carrier.

NOTE - The process of flashing your device outside of manufacture's instructions is not recommended for novice users. Please do not proceed unless you understand the risks of your actions.

NOTE - U.S and Carrier variants of the Samsung Galaxy S II may not be supported by this guide. We will test and confirm the update on the International Unlocked version of the device and confirm once our team has fully tested it.
  • Download and extract the Galaxy S II kernel file (CF-Root XXLPQ) and extract it
  • Download Odin (1.85)

  1. Open Odin and click the 'PDA' button.
    • Select the  CF-Root-xxx-vX.tar file you previously extracted
  2. Switch off your device and switch it back on using Power + Volume Down + Home
    • When you see a warning message, press Power Up to dismiss it.
    • You will now be in your device's download mode.
  3. Connect your device to your computer and make sure your device is detected
    • Make sure not to select the re-partition option
  4. On Odin select Start and wait for your device to reboot
If you have followed the steps correctly you have now rooted your Samsung Galaxy S II on Android 4.0.3 ICS with CF-Root.
