[GUIDE] How to install official Android 4.0.3 ICS on Samsung Galaxy S II


The Samsung Galaxy S II features a 4.3 inch display, 16GB of internal storage, an 8 megapixel camera and is powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core processor with 1GB of RAM.

It was recently announced that this flagship device will start receiving Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich starting today and over the coming weeks. While most users will have to wait for the update to role out to their regions and carriers, you can use our following step by step guide to install the official 4.0.3 update right now.

NOTE - The process of flashing your device outside of manufacture's instructions is not recommended for novice users. Please do not proceed unless you understand the risks of your actions.

NOTE - U.S and Carrier variants of the Samsung Galaxy S II may not be supported by this guide. We will test and confirm the update on the International Unlocked version of the device and confirm once our team has fully tested it.

If you understand the above mentioned points you can proceed to the step-by-step guide
  • Download and install the latest version of the Samsung Kies desktop application
  • Download Odin (required to flash ICS)
  • Download Android 4.0.3 ICS for Samsung Galaxy S II (~300MB)
    • Once downloaded extract the contents to a folder.
  • Enable USB Debugging on your device by going to Settings > Applications > Development
  • Perform a backup of your device data before proceeding.
  1. Open Odin and click the 'PDA' button.
    • navigate to the folder you extracted Android ICS and select the file with the '.md5' extension.
  2. Switch off your device and switch it back on using Power + Volume Down + Home
    • When you see a warning message, press Power Up to dismiss it
    • You will now be in your device's download mode
  3. Connect your device to your computer and make sure your device is detected
  4. On Odin select Start (which is under Control Panel) and wait for Android 4.0.3 ICS to be installed on your device.
  5. Once process is completed and device restarts you are ready to enjoy ICS.
