Jailbreaking your device gives you the luxury to perform tasks you generally blocked on your Apple iOS device

You can read about the jailbreak, the devices it's available for and follow the step by step guide on how you can jailbreak your own device on iOS 4.1 using PwnAgeTool 4.1 for Mac below:

[DISCLAIMER] Jailbreaking and unlocking is not supported by Apple and will void the warranty of your device. Please remember that you are doing this at your own risk. This site will not be responsible for the damage of your iDevice as a result to mistakes made during this process.

Today the Dev Team has released PwnageTool 4.1 for Mac OS X which jailbreaks the following devices:
  • iPhone 3G
  • iPhone 3GS
  • iPhone 4
  • iPod Touch 3G - 4G
  • iPad (3.2.2)
  • Apple TV 2G
PwnageTool allows you to restore a custom IPSW file, meaning that you can restore a pre jailbroken firmware while maintaining your current basedband. Maintaining the baseband allows you unlock your device to any carrier.

Follow the instructions below to Jailbreak your iDevice:

Downloads required
  1. Download and install the latest version of iTunes.
    -
  2. Connect your device to your computer and sync your device, so that all your important information is backed up on iTunes.
    -
  3. Download PwnageTool 4.1 and original iOS 4.1 for your specific device. Move these files to your desktop.
    -
  4. Start PwnageTool and select your device.
    -
  5. Clicking the next arrow will allow PwnageTool to select your firmware file automatically.
    -
  6. The tool will ask you " Do you have an iPhone 3G, 3GS, 4 contract that would activate normally through iTunes?". Click 'No' at this prompt. Clicking Yes would update your baseband thus making it impossible to unlock your device at this point. If your device is unlocked or under an official carrier like AT&T you can choose to select yes.
    -
  7. PwnageTool will now create a custom firmware file for you which you can subsequently use to Jailbreak your device.
    -
  8. Put your device in DFU Mode:
    • Switch Off your device
    • Hold Power and Home buttons for 10 seconds.
    • Now release power button, but continue to hold home button for 5 more seconds.
    • Your device should now be in DFU mode and will be indicated by PwnageTool.
      -
  9. You can now restore your iDevice using the custom firmware file that has just been created.
    • Start iTunes
    • Click on your device icon from the sidebar in iTunes,
    • Hold Left 'alt' button on your keyboard and click 'Restore'
    • iTunes will prompt you to select your firmware file location.
    • Select your custom firmware file and select 'Open'.
iTunes will do the rest. After a few minutes will restart automatically leaving you with a Jailbroken iPhone with iOS 4.1.

Unlock your iDevice on iOS 4.1

Once your device is jailbroken you will need to unlock it if your device is not officially unlocked.
  • Start Cydia on your Jailbroken iDevice.
  • Select the 'Manage' Tab
  • Select 'Sources' from the newly opened Tab
  • Touch 'Edit' and then 'Add'. You will be prompted to enter a url source.
  • Type 'http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com' and touch on 'Add Source'
  • After Cydia updates your sources Click search and search for UltraSn0w.
  • Your device is now automatically unlocked to work with any carrier.
  • Restart your device and you are ready to go.
Once you have completed these steps you can connect your device back with iTunes and restore your backup file.
