Today Microsoft revealed that they will be releasing Skype for iOS version 5.0 next week, and promise that the update will bring the "biggest change ever to Skype for iPhone". This will include a major redesign along with several new features. The updated app will share a “a consistent look and feel with the Windows Phone and Android apps”, but has been rewritten for iOS from ground up.
Reportedly, users should notice that Skype 5.0 for iPhone is “over 5 times faster” than the current version. One of the big novelties that the reworked app brings is the ability to start group chats from the hub. Notifications have been also improved, so if you’re using Skype on multiple devices, and read a message on one of them, it will be marked as read on all other devices, too. You can see Skype 5.0 for iPhone in the video below:
A redesigned and improved Skype for iPad will also be introduced soon, but an exact date was not given.
