Sony Xperia E1 announced for emerging markets

Sony has some great smartphones in the high end segment like the Xperia Z1 and the Xperia Z1 Compact. Today they have taken initiative to refresh their more affordable lineup. First the company announced the Xperia T2 Ultra mid-range tablet lineup. Then they took the covers off a brand new budget smartphone - the Sony Xperia E1.

The best thing you will notice about the affordable Xperia E1 is that Sony has not made any compromises with their design. In fact the device looks like a smaller version of the Z1 compact. There are no details on the actual materials that have been used in the E1's construction, so we can't know for sure if it sticks to the same high-quality glass-plus-metal build, but we'll hopefully find soon enough.

In terms of specs, you get a 4 inch touch display with a 480 by 800 pixel resolution, which works up to a pixel density of 233 ppi (pixels-per-inch), which isn't particularly bad, but things won't appear super-fine either. You get 4GB of internal storage which can be expanded through microSD, a 3.2 megapixel camera and a 1.2GHz dual-core processor with 512MB of RAM.

The Sony Xperia E1 will also employ a number of other features to try to round itself up as an appealing affordable package. For example, Sony touts its 100 dB loudspeaker as being... well, quite loud; and for those who'd love to get some dual-SIM action, there's going to be such a variant as well. Finally, the Xperia E1 will come in three color options: white, black and purple.

Press Release

Sony has unfortunately not mentioned when this handset will be released. The company has also failed to mention the price tag which will be attached to this device. However we should know soon enough when the device makes its eventual international launch.
