Microsoft Surface Pro 2 receives firmware update which greatly improves battery life

One of the biggest enhancements in this year's Microsoft Surface Pro 2 was the promise of better battery life over its predecessor. However the Windows 8.1 Pro powered tablet offered only 6.6 hours while browsing and 6.65 hours while playing video, which is not much compared to some of the mainstream tablets in the market. Fortunately it looks like a new firmware update for the tablet is about to make things much better.

According to a report, the Surface Pro 2 has received a firmware update which has greatly improved the battery life of the tablet. After the update, those times improved to 8.3 hours for browsing and 7.73 hours for video.

The update was desperately needed as Microsoft admitted that the slate has a number of things that require power from the battery such as the higher resolution display, active digitizer and capacitive touch. Following the update, the Surface Pro 2 jumped over the Microsoft Surface RT, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1, the Microsoft Surface 2 and the Google Nexus 10 when measuring battery life while browsing. When it comes to viewing video, the update enabled the Surface Pro 2 to hop over the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1.

This is a truly impressive feat for a full powered tablet which can outperform the newest iPad or Android tablets in the market.

Have any Microsoft Surface Pro 2 owners installed this update? Do you notice the improved battery life on your tablets?
